The 12-inch cabinet rule
In most apartments, upper cabinets sit 12 inches deep above the counter. A coffee maker taller than that belongs on an open shelf β not under the microwave cubby.
We tested drip and single-serve brewers with:
- Carafe or reservoir installed
- Lid fully open for filling
- Drip tray extended
What to check before you buy
- Width with the handle swung out (some βslimβ models fail here)
- Reservoir removal path β can you pull it forward without hitting the backsplash?
- Warm plate clearance β does steam vent straight into the cabinet lip?
Counter Crew publishes measured dimensions on every coffee review. We disclose affiliate relationships at the top of each buying guide.
